BSH Remediation Limited (BSH) were commissioned by Sytner BMW to deliver a site wide remediated formation of a former pottery site in Stoke on Trent, to enable the redevelopment of the site for a commercial (car showroom) end use.
The Vulcan Works was operated by Swinnertons Ltd (a company linked with the neighbouring Alcock, Lindley & Bloore pottery).
The Vulcan Works dates from the early 1900’s. The company specialised in table ware and lasted as an independent works until becoming part of Allied English Potteries (early 1960s)and later the Doulton group (from 1973).

Complexities of the site included site wide asbestos contamination and significant live services crossing former roads on the scheme. BSH have worked alongside the project team to deliver a cost effective development platform and foundation scheme for the client.
The site had significant boundary issues and BSH worked with the client and project team designing cost effective (eco-crib) retaining walls up to 7m high along one boundary of the site, which included off site works on adjacent landowner property.
The wall construction was provided by a specialist contractor but all the associated earthworks and generation of site won aggregates to complete the construction was done by BSH and our in-house team.
